I was lucky enough to be invited to this year’s ladies day at Newmarket Racecourse and for it’s annual Moet & Chandon July Festival which took place between 11th -13th July.
After much excitement of receiving the invite, I naturally started to think of putting together the perfect outfit and accessories. The dress code for Newmarket isn’t as strict as some of the other racecourses. Head-wear is highly recommended, but not an essential. With this in mind, I decided to ditch the obvious choice of a fascinator and went for a pearl headband, which is very much on trend this year. When it arrived, I realised it needed more drama so in the end, I ended up wearing three!
When you are deciding on an outfit for the races, then my advise would be, to dress like you are going to a really nice wedding, and go for a block heel or wedge style heel. If you insist on stilettos then grab some grass heel protectors. The style awards take place on Ladies day, where the best dressed lady gets crowned. This year’s winner wore a white dress which had a fitted bodice and flayed out at the waist. She accessorized the simple but beautiful white dress with green court shoes, a green embellished handbag and the most beautiful green headpiece. It was a satorical feast for the eyes. You an check out the winner and the top 10 runner ups on Newmarket’s Instagram page.
A day at the races is accessible to all types of groups, whether that be families, friends or couples. It’s also not just for a special occasion but a fun day out that can be enjoyed at any point of the year. It’s definitely a great opportunity to put on your favourite outfit and hang out with your mates.
Newmarket Racecourse has a range of events throughout the year, which I wasn’t aware off to be honest. I have only been to race days and a couple of their summer nights. This year there’s an upcoming Gin & Fizz race day (20th July) and Peaky Blinders race day (3rd August) as well as the Dubai Future Champions festival (11th-12th Oct).
My sister and I had a wonderful day and thank you to Newmarket Racecourse for hosting us.
